Winner of the best new freshwater reel for 2018 by Fly Fisherman Magazine and Best of Show at the 2017 ICAST/IFTD industry trade show, the SDF comes on the heels of our move to Colorado: the trout-based surroundings inspired us to take it up a notch.

Based on the SDS (Sealed Drag Salt), the SDF (Sealed Drag Fresh) is a scaled-down version of the award-winning saltwater titan featuring similar porting and a stainless steel / carbon fluoropolymer drag system. Euro Nymphing Reel

With the sport of European Style Nymhping becoming more popular, the demand for a high performance, high quality, fly fishing reel has been met by Galvan's New G.E.N. reel. The key feature of this reel are it's extreme large arbor and closed frame design. The extreme large arbor design, for those not familiar with the sport, accommodates the mcuh smaller in diameter Euro Nymoh lines. One of the favourites from Hardy's past, the Sovereign reels were conceived in 1987, remained in production until the late 1990's and offered highly advanced specifications together with maximum reliability. Packed with a powerful drag system and many other performance enhancing features, these new Hardy Sovereign reels are still constructed in Alnwick, England to the same exacting standards as their forebearers. A quote from a past Hardy catalogue that still rings true today is "There's only one word to describe the Sovereign Reel - Magic!"

The Hardy St George is one of the best loved of all Hardy vintage reels alongside the Perfect model. Introduced in 1911 in the 3-3/4” diameter size it stayed in production until 1983, an astonishing 72 years. The range of sizes and models is expansive, from the tiny St George Junior of 2-9/16th diameter to the ultra-rare St George Salmon reel of 4” with twin handles.

For the collector there are many variants including a Multiplier version, a Silent Check model, ultra-rare Tournament model, wide and narrow drum examples, shallow and deep core winding barrels, 2 screw, 3 screw  drums and on and on. Then there are Hardy’s’ infamous uncatalogued models which appear from time to time just to keep you collecting for years to come. Traditional users worldwide still favour these reels over most others in the Hardy range with the 3” St George being the dry fly specialist favourite.

When fitted with an agate line guide, it looks great and fishes well too being relatively lightweight to suit modern or short rods. The St George comes in a variety of external finishes, from dark lead to silvery lead, grey  enamel, black wartime paint and bright finish too so there is something to suit everyone’s taste and budget.

The IR Series was designed as a small, lightweight series for lines from 2 - 7 weight. The series has a unique click drag system with five drag settings that are adjustable from the frame-side adjustment knob. This allows for precise drag control when using lightweight tippets. Like other Islander reels, this series has been engineered to last a lifetime.

Crafted with the same precision and attention to detail as other Islanders, the IR series has set the standard for clicker-style reels. The frames, feet, spools and other components are manufactured from 6000 series billet aluminum bar stock, using the latest in computer controlled machines. They are then buffed and carefully hand polished before being anodized. In order to maintain free movement, the spools are fitted with 2 self-lubricating (oilite) bushings. The series’ simple design also makes switching between left and right hand retrieve as easy as a quick flip of the pawls - no tools required. These reels are available in either a gold, green, silver, green, slate grey or black anodized finish, and come furnished with a Cocobolo wood handle. Large Arbor spools are also available for the IR3 and IR4, and a new "COMBO" option is available that includes both the regular and large arbor spools.

The LX Large Arbor Series are designed and engineered from the frame out, the LX models are a perfect match for high performance rods and lines. Light, simple, and rugged, the LX series brings together all of the benefits of a Large Arbor, combined with the classic Islander look, sound and feel.The level of engineering skill in the design and manufacture of the LX becomes apparent the moment you pick one up. It’s so light! The largest LX tips the scales a shade under 10 ounces.

Next you will notice the aesthetic appeal, both visual and tactile. From the gently contoured palming rim to its highly polished stainless steel drawbar and counterweight. Not only does it do its job exceedingly well; it looks good doing it! The super-smooth “stop-a-truck” drag is provided by Islander’s proven Teflon and graphite-impregnated cork drag disc. By turning the silky smooth frame-side adjustment knob, you can modify the drag to a setting that most suits your style.

Spool and Drag
Every LX fly reel is designed with a large arbor spool to enhance retreval speed and reduce the need for backing. The spool (and frame) are heavily ported to reduce weight without compromising structural integrity. The LX Series also has a large hardcoat anodized aluminum clutch with graphite impregnated cork drag surface for buttery smooth action and enough stopping power to straighten a hook.

TWICE THE STRENGTH, TWICE THE SMOOTHNESS, HALF THE STARTUP INERTIA

The newest addition to the Nautilus family is the CCF-X2. The multiple award winning dual action CCF-X2 drag system features twice the drag strength (20lbs+), twice the smoothness and half the startup inertia as the former CCF.

The CCF-X2 is featured in 4 sizes – the 6/8, 8/10, 10/12 and Silver King. All reels feature the made-for-fish fighting, big game handle and are fully sealed using our proprietary Activseal technology. Other components included in the CCF-X2 line are hybrid ceramic bearings, TPX bushings and an oversized drag knob to adjust the smoothest drag from zero to max in 6 full turns with our Infinajust system.

The 6/8 is a 4-inch large arbor 6-8 weight reel. For more line pick up, the 8/10 is a great 8 weight with almost 12 inches of line pick up with a WF8 line per turn of the handle. The 4.5-inch 8/10 and 10/12 reels share the same frame and the spools can be interchanged for a set up that covers 8 to 12 weight lines with just an extra spool.

The Silver King is the latest addition to the CCF-X2 line and is the world’s lightest 5-inch diameter true big game reel on the market. This dominator of all things silver picks up 14-inches of line per turn of the handle and will reel in your prize like none other.

In addition, this reel is fully sealed and loaded with hybrid ceramic bearings, TPX bushings and an oversized drag knob with Infinadjust range settings.

SPEY: We have always closely followed the evolution and growth of Spey fishing, and we now have yet another first for the fly fishing world: The Speyrings. As in every reel we design, we look to the past to make sure we don’t get stuck in it. The Spey world started to look back at full frame reels when they began using thinner running lines (0.025 diameter and less) as these full frames prevented the lines from slipping out of the frame. The problem we saw with full frame reels was the tremendous additional weight that required consumers to purchase dedicated reels for their Spey adventures (or fish thicker running lines over .030-inch diameter). Problem: Money and weight.

Our foresight in 2008 led to our Spey-specific spools for the NV line of reels, designed to prevent thin lines from slipping out and to lower the cost without adding much weight. Instead of purchasing a reel, all you needed was a Spey spool for your 8, 10 or 12 weight reel.

As the years passed and the market embraced this new concept, we kept thinking forward and now have a great solution that we are introducing with the Silver King: the Speyrings.

The Speyrings are four little rings that snap on the frame in key spots of the reel in mere seconds and close the frame/spool gap to 0.003-inch to barely let light through. Now we solved it all: running lines don’t slip out, and it costs nothing more while performing flawlessly. And you don’t have to purchase an entirely separate setup for your Spey or salt trip.

The Nautilus X-Series is an open-frame reel designed for lightness, strength, drag smoothness, and fast line pick up. The X-Series design has strong beams that extend from the center to a wide line guard. The drag deputing with the LTX is over four times stronger than it's predecessors', while retaining the sound and feel that helped make the Evolution an icon. Since Ross Reels started in 1973, there has been one model that epitomizes what a Ross Reel is; the San Miguel. It defined teh ultimate in class and finesse, and now, over two decades since it was first launched, the classic returns.

Meticulously desgined in our Colorado factory, the new San Miguel blends modern machining and materials with all of the elements that made the original iconic. Returning are the polished high-gloss black finish on a solid-backed frame, the liquid-smooth free spool, wide-range adjustable seeled drag, and famous "flower petal" porting.

This new version also debuts modernized features such as a canvas micarta handle, a material used in high-end custom knives to improve grip when wet. Designing Centerfire, we drew from the strongest and most reliable elements from over a quarter century of fly reel production. The frame incorporates our proprietary - IPX8 waterproof rate - Cobalt drag system, burly Power Arm construction and load path reinforcement. The spool maximizes capacity and line retrieval with plenty of porting to dry out after a big day. Add a large fluted drag knob, oversized handle and hard anodize and you can be sure this reel will only clock out when you do.

Let’s face it, die-cast reels are intended to be low-cost alternatives to machined reels, right? Imported. Heavier. Easier to damage. Plain Jane. Well... not anymore. When creating Liquid, we focused purely on the virtues and advantages a pressure-cast process can offer. Structurally, you can do things with casting that you can’t machine: Full-radius compound curves. Near zero-radius inside corners. And for a precision fit and finish, we even go back and machine the cast part in critical areas—amplifying the best aspects of both worlds. We pushed back on other boundaries as well. How much of a reel at this cost can we make here in the US.? Quite a lot, as it turns out. It’s a good mix, too. Liquid’s high-quality castings are imported, but the components critical to the drag system are CNC-machined in the US. Liquid reels are assembled in Boise alongside our highest-priced reels. No other $100 reel can boast this much US content and quality oversight.

LSF – The LSF is the freshwater version of the new Litespeed. The chassis is based on the conical system found in our other reels with the addition of a click stop drag knob and a unique spring set that creates a linear progression of torque with very fine resolution at the light end of its range. LSF spool and frame architecture is super-arbor in scale for high retrieve, but spare and open to promote line drying and, of course, reduce weight.

LSM - the marine version of Litespeed is quipped with a hybrid drag system, sharing some elements of the Cobalt drag - fixed spindle, large heat-wicking conical surfaces, click stop drag knob.
