Upcoming events December 2025top
Posted by Ryan Heitz
We have dates set for many of our 2026 courses as well as some awesome free events. These are all attached under the "Upcoming Courses and Events" section.
FREE EVENTS to mark in your calendar:
Next Thursday Nov 27th is the BC Steelhead Society’s pub night and fundraiser. Golden Parrots Club Coquitlam at 7:00pm. Tickets are available at the door. $35 includes a burger and a beer. Please come and support this event. Bring some shekels for the auction, 50/50 raffle, and silent auction. Enjoy the company! This is a great place to connect with likeminded fishers and build relationships that may help to sustain our fisheries and fishing opportunities – we encourage you to get involved. We all need to advocate for the rivers, the fish, and our opportunities to engage in these fisheries.
M&Y Customer Appreciation Christmas Party – Saturday December 20th
Please stop by for a Christmas visit. We will break out the food and drink at 2:00pm and stay open until 7:00pm. There will be door prizes and fish stories. If you cannot make it in the afternoon there will be coffee and Carolans as well as some cookies to snack on throughout the morning. The store will remain open for business.
ECHO Casting Day – Saturday March 14th
Come join us at Derby Reach in Fort Langley for an afternoon of casting ECHO fly rods. ECHO will bring a full selection of their rods, single and double hand, for all to come out and test cast. This is a free event. Anybody that comes out will be entered to win a draw prize and will receive a discount on their next ECHO purchase. More details will come out in a future email, closer to the event.
SPEY DAY – Sunday April 12th
JOIN US for a day full of fun, food, presentations, and an opportunity to play with some of the new rods, reels, and lines on the market. Our primary focus is Spey casting but we will have single hand fly rods and lines for you to try too!
For those that have never attended the M&Y spey clave this is "THE" day to come and play with all of the different two handed rods and lines available through Michael & Young. It provides an excellent opportunity to try a spey rod for the first time, to tweak your existing rod finding the perfect line, to check out what's new, to build on your wish list, and to socialize with all the other double handed fanatics. And, while you are at it, you might as well enjoy a free BBQ lunch, enter your name in to win one of the many prizes donated by our supporters, and watch and listen to some of the many presenters. We will be selling raffle tickets for our draws with all proceeds going to the BC Steelhead Society and the BC Federation of Fly Fishers.
Spey Clave Highlights
- Meet great presenters & manufacturer reps
- Prize draw for all that help us raise funds
- Spey Day Attendee only prizes as well
- Tweak your existing rod finding the perfect line
- Socialize with all the other double handed fanatics
- BBQ lunch include - FREE
Our primary goal is to raise awareness about spey fishing and have fun, but who says we can't raise funds for some of the more active, local, non profit groups that focus their efforts on our provinces fish and fisheries.
WADER LEAK TEST with PATAGONIA – Saturday April 18th
Patagonia is sponsoring a wader leak test at our Surrey location. Come out and have your waders leak tested free of charge. Any brand of wader is welcome. There will be help on site to help mark leaks and discuss repair options. And, of course, lots of Patagonia waders for sale!

This year Catherine will be leading our group to Kiritimati (kiri "s"ma“s"). Join her for some of the best walk and wade bonefishing in the world. March 10—17. For more information or to sign up for one of these trips please contact Catherine or Ryan at our Surrey store or visit our website.
And we all thought last year was good for salmon… 2025 was incredible! Pinks, Chinook, and Coho all came back in incredible numbers and our local rivers had (and continue to have) awesome fishing. Sadly, this has not been reflected in Thompson steelhead – with this year being the lowest return on record. Last year’s bump in numbers had us optimistic but after this year that optimism is hard to keep. Skeena steelhead numbers were also much lower than last year’s but were still quite a bit better than some of the recent lows. Many anglers had fantastic trips and created amazing memories. The lack of snow in the mountains and mild temperatures have made us worried about river levels. Our fingers are crossed the temperatures drop enough to get some snow to fall and get our snowpack back up. This season the Skagit was beautiful. It was very low in the latter half of the season but remained cold and fishing was solid. It was a great year for Stillwater anglers with early ice off and consistent fishing late into the fall.
On to the business side of things and most importantly your dollars. The economic relationship between Canada and the USA is a mess. Tariffs throughout the year and resulting price increases on the bulk of global commodities entering the USA, created a substantial price increase throughout the fishing industry. There are a few companies insulated from this but only a very few. Many of the essentials like fly lines, hooks, leaders, and flies will remain the same as the last few years. The products hit the hardest are the price point rods, reels, waders, and boots… there will be a 25% or more price increase on most of these.
NEW PRODUCTS highlights for the upcoming season! Some of the notable new releases: Scott Fly Rods and the new GT series of rods – absolutely stunning with the two 9’'8" models getting us stoked for the spring chironomid fishery; Winston Air 2 TH using new technology to lighten the blanks while increasing durability, and creating tapers designed for efficiency and power; NAM VOR rods – single hand and spey incredible blanks with no bells and whistles. Concentrating on what matters the performance and price, the compromise – only the frills; Marble sunglasses – engineered with the rivers in mind. These are keeping it simple – only one frame with excellent options of Zeiss lenses both tested extensively on the water; BRIDGE Torrent MD lines slowing your fly down where the fish are! New to us but not to you – YETI – come browse our lineup of YETI that we feel compliments a fly fishers’ lifestyle.
And, not here yet but coming to a fly shop near you spring 2026– Patagonia Swiftcurrent Traverse Wading Pants; River Salt II Wading Boots – wet wading to the next level of comfort; New sun wear including a full line of 40UPF shirts and hoodies as well as sun tights for the flat’s fishers; AND SIMMS DRIFTER SHOES think fishing CROCS!! Comfort and convenience for your next fishing trip.
A PDF version of this flyer is posted on our website. This year’s flyer is packed with amazing deals on new and used items. If you see anything you like contact us quickly before it’s gone. When it comes to clothing and fly lines we have much more than we can print here so please visit the Clearance section on our website to browse.
