We offer a huge selection of fly fishing courses covering topics such as fly casting, fly tying, entomology and spey Casting. Fly fishing classes are taught at both our Surrey and our Vancouver fly shop locations and many include an on the water session. We also offer up private fly casting lessons that can be scheduled at your convenience.

Vedder River Winter Steelhead

<p>Join Matt Bentley of Bentley's Fishing Adventures for a full day of rafting down the Vedder/Chilliwack River in pursuit of the elusive Winter Steelhead on a two-handed rod. Learn how to target these fish on the fly, how to read water, what appropriate equipment to use (flies, lines, sink tips, rods, etc). </p>

<p>A full day travelling by jet boat, fly fishing the Fraser River, Harrison River, and some of their backwaters on the hunt for Searun Cutthroat trout on the fly.</p>

<p>Matt Bentley of Bentley's Fishing Adventures will be our instructor. His knowledge of the fishery is incredible. He will discuss and demonstrate the appropriate tackle, technique, and strategies to be successful in this fishery and then will help you put these techniques and ideas to use.</p>

<p>A full day of swinging flies for big, aggressive sea run Bull Trout on the Lower Mainland's picturesque upper Pitt River.</p>

These fish have spent a year or more in the ocean getting big, fat and healthy. When they reach the river they aggressively attack minnows, par, and sculpin and are full of vigour. You will discuss flies and practice streamer fishing with the swung fly.  Looking at the river: run depth, speed and water colour, and learning strategy on how to best cover water to hook these fish.</p>

<p>Travel by jet boat from Grant Narrows to the upper Pitt River with Matt Bentley of Bentley's Fishing Adventures.  Matt has lots of experience on this river and is a wealth of knowledge in the pursuit of these extremely unique Bull Trout.</p>

Stillwater Fly Fishing Weekend 2023 - RUDDOCK'S RANCH, ONION LAKE

<p>Four days and three nights of stillwater fishing with Michael & Young Fly Shops, Ryan Heitz.</p>

<p>Join Ryan at Ruddock's Ranch for some great food and a weekend of discussing and implementing some different strategies for catching rainbow trout in British Columbia's vast Stillwater fisheries. </p>

<p>Floating lines and Indicators, floating line "naked", intermediate lines and sink tips in shallow water, fast sinking lines including boobies and blobs, fast sinking lines and deep water chironomids. All of these stratefies will be discussed and demonstrated. as well as anchoring tips and strategies on how to approach a new lake and a new day. </p>

<p>Using the Ruddock's Ranch "Off The Grid" Lodge as our "home" we will be spoiled with great meals and a beautiful place to relax and learn. All food and non-alcoholic beverages are included. We will be pampered in a 4700 square foot, two story lodge with 3000 square foot deck overlooking the lake.  The lodge is close to Lytton, BC approximately 3 and 1/2 hours away from out Surrey store.</p>

<p>Starting Friday afternoon and running through to Monday afternoon. </p>

<p>$990.00 plus taxes per person.</p>

<p>Wild rainbows. . .anyone that has had the opportunity to fish Ruddocks know that these fish fight hard!  Smaller ones give a 10+ acrobatic performance across the surface while the big ones pull hard so be ready! (We usually find a couple of rods in the lake in the fall from fisherman not paying attention).  The food is abundant in the lake and the fish can grow fast – up to 2 lbs. a year. Bring with you: micro leach, olive damsels, bead head leach, pumpkin heads, chronomids: copper head, snow cone and red rib copper head to name a few.</p>

<p>IMPORTANT!   Electric motors only, no gas motors allowed.  Fly fishing only, catch and release, barbless hooks, use fish friendly nets (nets available for rent).  Please handle fish with care, keep them in the water and release them once they have had time to recover.  Please ensure you have a fishing license. </p>

<p><strong>Designed as an introduction to fly fishing for salmon. Spend the day with experienced guide and instructor:</strong> Curtis Meyers of BC Fly Fishing Charters. You will use a jet boat to navigate the Harrison river and look for salmon. The discuss and practice casting and retrieves; strategy for run selection and fly selection; learn about fish habits. Coho and chum are the target species. </p>

Fly Fishing for Bass - Gallegher Lake Fishing Weekend

Let us introduce you to the world of fly fishing for trophy bass in B.C.

This 4 day venue takes place in the hidden valley of the Similkameen. Okanagan wine counrty and home to some of the best bass fishing B.C. has to offer. This Spring fed lake holds both small/largemouth bass up to 8 pounds and over.  Perch up to 3 pounds, carp, sunfish and whitefish species.

We will be staying at the Gallagher Lake Rv Resort. All Shared Beach Sites include power and water. Laundry facilities, hot showers and cleaning/washing stations.

This trip incudes 3 meals a day, beverages and snacks. All meals are prepared by Gourmet Chef Pierre Morel.

Learn to effectively fish top water Poppers and stalk bass in there habitat. Fish off the beach or in your boat. 

Trip includes on site tutorial of lake and how and where to fish.  A 2 hour afternoon tying session at base camp. (optional participation)

Please note that you do not have to take the Beginner Day 1 course to attend this course but we ask that you have some beginner spey casting experience if you did not take the first day. Novice and experienced Spey fisherman can benefit from expert instruction. Whether your new to the sport, or you have been waving your two-hander around for years, there is always more to learn. Through the duration of the day students will go beyond the basics and will discuss casting from both sides of the river and from both sides of their bodies. All the following casts will be taught and discussed: Skagit Casting, Scandi Casting, Single Spey, Double Spey, Circle C, and Snake Roll.And, students will have a chance to try some of the different styles of spey lines if they would like to. </strong></p>
