Fly fishing classes are taught at both our Surrey and our Vancouver fly shop locations and many include an on the water session. We also offer up private fly casting lessons that can be scheduled at your convenience.
On-The-Watertop
Join Matt Bentley of Bentley's Fishing Adventures for a full day of rafting down the Vedder/Chilliwack River in pursuit of the elusive Winter Steelhead on a two-handed rod. Learn how to target these fish on the fly, how to read water, what appropriate equipment to use (flies, lines, sink tips, rods, etc).
This day is limited to two anglers per trip!
At the north end of Harrison Lake flows an amazing trout fishery. Most of the year the river is high and tough to fish but in the cold months the river is beautiful with an abundance of Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Bull Trout and Whitefish. Join Michael & Young on our adventure by jet boat to explore this beautiful place in search of fins.
Matt Bentley of Bentley's Fishing Adventures is your instructor and guide. He will help you discover successful strategies and practices for fly fishing for trout in the winter months.

A full day of swinging flies for big, aggressive sea run Bull Trout on the Lower Mainland's picturesque upper Pitt River.
In May Sea Run Bull Trout start to enter the river to spawn. These fish have spent a year or more in the ocean getting big, fat and healthy. When they reach the river they aggressively attack minnows, par, and sculpin and are full of vigour. You will discuss flies and practice streamer fishing with the swung fly. Looking at the river: run depth, speed and water colour, and learning strategy on how to best cover water to hook these fish.

Designed as an introduction to fly fishing for salmon. Spend the day with experienced guide and instructor: Matt Bentley of BC Fly Fishing Charters. You will use a jet boat to navigate the Harrison river and look for salmon. The discuss and practice casting and retrieves; strategy for run selection and fly selection; learn about fish habits. Coho and Chum Salmon are the target species.

Float the Squamish river while fly fishing for coho salmon. Spend the day with experienced guide and instructor: Matt Bentley of BC Fly Fishing Charters. You will use a raft to navigate the Sqiuamish river on the hunt for coho salmon. Matt will discuss coho salmon and techniques for targeting them with a fly rod. And, you will practice casting and retrieves; strategy for run selection and fly selection; learn about fish habits. Coho are the target species.

Fly Tyingtop
This fundamental course is designed for those who are just getting started or want a refresher. The objective of this course is to expose the student to all the various modern techniques he/she will require in order to become a proficient tyer. Once these techniques are properly mastered, the student should be able to tie most anything. Topics covered include proper use and maintenance of tools, proportioning of the fly, wrapping hackles, soft hackle techniques, dubbing, weighting flies, streamers, spinning deer hair and basic dry flies. Patterns tied include many B.C. favourites such as the Carey Special, Doc Spratley, Baggy Shrimp, Hares Ear Nymph, Goddard Sedge, Tom Thumb, Dark Cahill and the Mickey Finn.

Spend the day with an awesome tyer and instructor Will Bush. The day will be spent on specific techniques including tags, tails and veilings on an easier pattern like a Waverly. Then on underwings and married wings, roof and shoulders on a pattern such as the Snapper.
Do you struggle with tying tiny chironomids? In this 3 hour course Gordie Brown will show you some tricks and help you gain confidence in tying the wee ones. Getting the proportions right; ribbing with detail; tying in a "V-gill"; adding depth to the fly; and adding wing buds. And, you will get to take home a few awesome patterns!
By Popular Demand! Spend a day with an awesome tyer and instructor learning to tie Spey, Dee, and Featherwing style steelhead flies. Will Bush will lead this course. You will tie a few different styles of flies including a traditional knox pattern like a Culdrain, a Lady Caroline, a Dee pattern like a Dodger, and a Pacific Northwest pattern like the Sol Duc. You will focus on all aspects of a well tied and proportioned Spey fly.
Fly Castingtop
Designed for the novice flycaster, these sessions will enable the student to properly lay out a reasonable flyline. Emphasis is on technique as distance will come with time. Topics covered include proper grip of flyrod, false casting, overhead cast, shooting the line as well as the single and double haul.

Entomologytop
Perfect for those who are just getting started or for those who want to get more out of the sport. The objective here is to properly introduce students to the world of fly fishing as it pertains to British Columbia so that the students will quickly learn the basics that are essential to becoming a successful fly fisher. We will be covering a wide range of topics such as proper tackle selection, trout physiology, physical and chemical characteristics of lakes and rivers as well as entomology coupled with proper fly selection.

Spey Castingtop
BEGINNER This is a course designed to establish the techniques required for the spey casts which we use most for Steelheading and Salmon fishing. Novice and experienced Spey fisherman can benefit from expert instruction. Whether your new to the sport or you have been waving your two-hander around for years there is always more to learn. Through the duration of the day students will be taught the basic principals between the different casts. Emphasis on the fundamentals of the roll cast and structuring the single spey and the double spey.
