AMERICAN, PREMIUM, PERFORMANCE Abel is a premium, American, fishing company. Established in 1980, it employs approximately 50 people worldwide. It is headquartered in Montrose, Colorado, home to its precision manufacturing facility and research & development lab. Abel products meet the highest standards in quality, design and manufacturing and the company invests heavily in research and development to continue to improve its designs and technologies. Abel has written its way into history by making gear for the world’s top guides and fishing lodges, winning more IGFA world records and industry design awards than any other fly tackle manufacturer in the world. INSPIRED BY THE MOUNTAINS The mountains have influenced the birth of our independence and the evolution of our company, creating a highly diverse yet very collaborative landscape. Our factory neighbors the Rocky Mountains, and we're proud to produce our products on the Western Slope of Colorado. Mountains are unavoidable in our State, and for a fishing tackle manufacturer like Abel, they challenge us with their terrain providing the perfect playground to inspire innovation and engineering.
Abel Super Series has proven itself for its super-smooth, infinitely adjustable cork drag system married to a strong aluminum frame & large arbor spool for increased line retrieval speed.
Available since 1999 in a size for every fish that swims, the Abel Super Series has proven itself time after time as the premier American-made reel. While there have been various improvements and adjustments over the years, there are things that have never changed. Specifically, a super-smooth, infinitely adjustable cork drag system married to a strong aluminum frame & large arbor spool for increased line retrieval speed.
For 2017 we have redesigned the original Super Series reel with an all new line of lighter weight sizes that feature a quick change spool system achieved by eliminating the previously removable locknut and drag knob.
The proven drag system is what makes the Super Series equally at home on the trout stream, the salt flats, and demanding deep blue water: It can be set light enough to protect the finest tippet, but can also be cranked to slow down the toughest Bluefin. No matter what species you prefer to chase, a Super Series reel is there to help you land it!

The TR's pronounced palming rim is deliberately shaped to manually control drag pressure in all fishing conditions. The TR also features a large-arbor spool engineered to reduce line memory and increase retrieval rate.
The return of a classic. The new Abel TR stays true to the roots of the original, but with a striking modern design and feel. The partial porting of the frame draws from the Abel lineage, and its unique features are as inventive as anything Abel has ever produced.
Crafted by our expert machinists in Montrose, Colorado, the TR is a lightweight masterpiece. An integrated precision-balanced clicker on the spool eliminates the need for a counterweight, yielding a clean look and retaining an iconic click-pawl sound. The pronounced palming rim is deliberately shaped to manually control drag pressure in all fishing conditions. The TR also features a large-arbor spool engineered to reduce line memory and increase retrieval rate. Machined stainless steel accents on both the frame and spool add that extra level of detail found only in an Abel reel.
